For instance, you could work as a receptionist over the weekends for a month. You could even work as an assistant for free. By offering your services, you give yourself a better chance of being accepted as an apprentice. If you just go in trying to get help without offering anything in return, there's a good chance you will be turned away.
Once you are accepted you will be able to get hands on experience that wouldn't necessarily be provided in a classroom setting. You would be able to see how a day really goes for an auto repair specialist. You would be able to experience the fun and easy going times as well as the times when they must deal with difficult and unsatisfied customers.

Although you would have an opportunity to get experience as an apprentice, it is still good to get extra practice.
